About the role

The Council Archivist is responsible for managing Council’s historic archive holdings, dating back to the 1840s, with a focus on the application of appropriate access and preservation through archive assessment, sentencing and description, database development, on and offsite storage management and the implementation of an ongoing digitisation program.

The Archivist is also responsible for responding to internal and external information and research enquiries, as well as providing information for responses to Government Information Public Access Act (2009) enquiry responses.

The Archivist works as part of Council’s Research & Collection Services team, developing and implementing outreach activities and website content in order to share and foster engagement with the fascinating history of the City of Parramatta and its neighbourhoods.

About the person

We are looking for an experienced archivist who holds (or is eligible for) recognition by the Australian Society of Archivists as an Accredited Member (ASAAM) or Recognised Professional (ASARP). Previous experience as an archivist in the cultural sector would be an advantage.

You will be proactive and collaborative team member, and prior experience working with volunteers would be advantageous.

You will also be experienced in the assessment, accessioning, arrangement & description and ongoing management of archival material, and will also have a demonstrable interest in sharing stories through historical collections.

You will have good IT and database skills (a working knowledge of Vernon CMS would be particularly valued) and prior experience implementing a digitisation program would be useful.
